A Perfect Fall Weekend in Halifax: An Itinerary from Seacliff

Fall is Halifax at its best. The crowds are gone, the air is crisp, the maples along the Northwest Arm turn gold and red, and the city's restaurants settle into their cozy season. Here's how we'd spend a perfect October weekend — a Friday-to-Sunday, two-night escape starting and ending at Seacliff.

Friday: Arrive and Unwind

Check in, drop your bags, and head straight for the water. Take the evening slow: a walk down to the private wharf as the sun drops behind the Arm, then your first soak in the hot tub under the stars. Fall nights are made for this — cool air, hot water, nothing on the schedule.

For dinner, consider The Bicycle Thief at Bishop's Landing, a lively waterfront favourite known for its Italian cuisine. Reservations are recommended.

Saturday: The City

Morning: Start with coffee on the Lookout deck — on a clear October morning you can see straight across the Arm. Then head downtown — 12 minutes by car, or arrive in style with a private water taxi pickup from our wharf (subject to availability and weather) — for the Halifax waterfront boardwalk. Walk it end to end: Historic Properties and the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market (Saturdays, 8 a.m.–2 p.m.).

Midday: Lunch at the Seaport or downtown, then an hour at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia or a climb up Citadel Hill for the harbour view. If the leaves are peaking, detour through Point Pleasant Park — 75 hectares of forest trails right at the city's edge, and spectacular in mid-October.

Evening: Back to Seacliff for sunset from The Canopy, where elevated loungers overlook the Northwest Arm. It's the perfect place to unwind before an evening out. Then dinner out: The Press Gang for seafood in a 1759 stone building, or Bar Kismet for something more modern. Both worth the reservation.

Sunday: A Scenic Coastal Farewell

Enjoy a leisurely morning overlooking the Northwest Arm before checkout — coffee on the deck, one last look at the water. Then take the scenic drive to Peggy's Cove, one of Nova Scotia's most iconic coastal destinations. Explore the fishing village, admire the lighthouse, and experience the rugged Atlantic coastline. One caution on the rocks: the surf here is genuinely dangerous — stay well back from the water's edge and off wet or black rocks.

It's a beautiful way to extend your Halifax getaway before heading home.

When to Come

Autumn colours typically transform Halifax throughout October, with peak conditions varying from year to year. Book early — fall weekends at Seacliff go fast, and this is the season regulars ask about first.

The hot tub runs year-round. The heated pool is seasonal — if it's still open during your visit, consider it a bonus.
