Best Restaurants in Halifax: A Local's Guide
From waterfront dining and romantic evenings to local favourites worth discovering.
October 2026 | The Seacliff Hosts
We get asked one question more than any other: where should we eat? Here are our recommendations, from anniversary dinners to quiet Tuesday nights. No paid placements, no filler. Just a thoughtfully curated selection of Halifax restaurants we believe are worth discovering.

Worth the Reservation
The Bicycle Thief — Bishop's Landing, on the waterfront. Modern Italian in a room that hums every night of the week. The handmade pastas and the waterfront patio (in season) are the draw. Book ahead — it fills up.
Our recommendation: reserve a waterfront table around sunset.
The Press Gang — Downtown, in a stone building from 1759. This is old Halifax: oysters, the day's catch, candlelight. The room to book when the night matters — proposals, anniversaries, milestone celebrations.
Bar Kismet — Small, creative, and quietly one of the most exciting kitchens in Atlantic Canada. Intimate and inventive; weekend tables go fast, so plan ahead. Best for adventurous eaters who want the city's most interesting menu.
da Maurizio — Classic white-tablecloth Italian with old-school service. The pick for guests who want the traditional fine-dining experience, done properly.
Arrive in Style — By Water Taxi
Why drive when you can arrive by water? Seacliff guests can arrange a private water taxi pickup directly from our floating wharf, enjoying a scenic cruise along Halifax's Northwest Arm and into the downtown waterfront.
It's an unforgettable way to begin an evening out, particularly when dining at waterfront favourites like The Bicycle Thief. Skip the drive, enjoy the harbour views, and make the journey part of the experience.
*Private water taxi service is available by advance arrangement, subject to weather and availability. Additional fees apply. Explore the Seacliff water taxi experience.*
Casual Nights
Not every night needs a reservation. For the easy ones:
The Henry House — Barrington Street. Set in a historic stone house dating to 1834: a serious beer list, honest pub food, and a patio in summer. No fuss, all character.
The Old Triangle — An Irish pub on Prince Street with live music most nights. Lively, unpretentious, and very Halifax.
And our honest advice for at least one morning of your stay: grab breakfast supplies and eat on the deck. The view over the Northwest Arm competes with any dining room in the city.
The Seacliff Table
For the nights you don't want to leave the property — anniversaries, proposals, or just because: Chef Ben Kelly cooks private dinners in-house, and the dining room looks straight over the water. Tell us when you book and we'll arrange it. It's the best seat in Halifax, and you don't have to drive home.
A Note on Seasons
Halifax restaurants breathe with the seasons. Summer brings patios and crowds; some rooms shorten their hours in winter. When in doubt, ask us before you go — we'll tell you what's actually open and worth it that week.
